CPL Ba Gua Intro Workshop in Athens This Weekend!

CPL Ba Gua Intro Workshop in Athens This Weekend!

By: Dave on Wednesday, April 22, 2009

CPL Bagua workshop @ Roots Farm this Saturday, April 25, 3-5pm. Intro level, all welcome.

This came together at the last minute so I’m getting the word out a little late. If you are in the Athens area and have been wanting to try out some Ba Gua, now is your chance! We will be looking at the first four changes in the Chen Pan Ling Condensed Ba Gua System. Most of the time will be spent on introduction to the forms and proper circling, but we will also touch on basic application of the forms. These forms are very adaptable to different ability levels and are comparatively easy to learn, so no one should fear that the material will go over their heads. Conversely, the accomplished martial artist can use these forms to quickly integrate Ba Gua methods and strategies into their existing practice.

Sorry again for the late notice, and I hope to see some new faces as well as old friends there!

That was awesome! Thanks, Dave, for such a great Ba Gua workshop!
I had only kinda “gone through” some of the Chen Pan Ling palm changes before, but never looked at them in detail, and now I got em :)

Really fun stuff. If someone missed this one – be sure to come to the next one – quality movements, repetition, applications and just an overall good time…especially seeing Carl repeatedly visit the Poison Ivy :P

Thanks to everyone for coming out to Roots Farm to train some kung fu! Special thanks to Dave for the thorough teaching and for throwing me into the poison ivy :) . This was my first time giving this system any serious training and I feel like I picked up the first four changes pretty well. Of course I look forward to further refinements and a lot more exploration of applications, but it was gratifying to invest a couple hours and learn half of a kung fu system!!! I’m especially thankful for the exposure to the “grazing” tactics, as I’m prone to try to lock horns with folks and try to wrap them up regardless of size–giving a grazing blow and moving along seems like it could save my ass in some instances!

Thanks again to all–it was a good work out, some good new material, and a great time!

    Yeah, good times!

If anyone wants to come to the next one and not be behind the curve, you should look up Carl. He can catch you up—if he’s not too busy with the calamine ;)

We need to schedule another one Dave!
I’ve already passed this material on to 28 folks via Camp Amped [teen rock n roll camp at Nucis Space] and several in my Taiji class. Spent most of last night’s Taiji class experimenting with applications on those 1st 4 changes [as well as comparing/cotrasting them with some apps from Yilu and Erlu] with John Pence and Ainhoa.
Come teach again before I lead anybody further astray!

Also I cam across this on youtube and found it interesting. Check it at 5:45 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51iz95XL9H4
