New Gao Style Ba Gua Zhang Class Forming Now!

We at PATHS Atlanta are proud to be expanding our class offerings this year, and as promised, here is the lowdown on the new Gao Ba Gua class:

WHAT
The new class will focus on the tactical fundamentals of the Gao Ba Gua Zhang system from the ground up. Each form, strategy and application will be examined in detail in the order that they appear in the system. Class will begin with warm-ups and relevant strengthening and technical drills selected to compliment the topic of the day.

One tactic will be unpacked and examined from theory, to form, to direct application. Emphasis will be on partner drills and detailed understanding of the body mechanics involved in each form. Each of the 24 basic tactics (Tien Gen or ‘Heavenly Stems‘), basic circle walking, and the single palm changes will be learned in detail.

WHEN
Monday nights, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm beginning on February 1^st, 2010.

WHERE
Academe of the Oaks campus, 146 New Street, Decatur GA, 30030. If you have never been to one of our classes there, simply come to the parking lot on the left at the top of the drive and enter the building by the basketball court. Extra parking is available on the left, outside the fence, and also on the street.

WHY
This class is intended to perform several functions in our Ba Gua curriculum. First, it will provide a great place for students new to Ba Gua Zhang (or even martial arts in general) to learn the basics in detail and in a comfortable environment.

Second, it will reinforce those fundamentals for our more advanced students. It can not be emphasized enough that success at all levels in this system depend on a firm grounding in the basics, and that foundation needs to be maintained and improved as practitioners move upward through the system’s more intricate layers. This class will give intermediate and advanced students a place to continue honing their basic skills while helping the next generation along as well.

Lastly, this class will provide a laboratory environment where everyone will work together on the same thing at the same time.

If you are a new or existing student and you plan to take advantage of this new class, please let me (Dave) know. Enrollment for this class is open, but will be capped at 10 students to make sure everyone gets plenty of attention.
